What is the E-Verify program?

E-Verify is a powerful, web-based system provided by the U.S. government that allows employers to confirm the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States. By comparing the information provided on an employee’s Form I-9 with data from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Social Security Administration (SSA), E-Verify provides near-instant verification results, ensuring that your workforce is authorized and ready to work.

Why Choose E-Verify?

Compliance and Peace of Mind: Using E-Verify helps your business stay compliant with federal and state laws, reducing the risk of fines and penalties. For employers who are required to use E-Verify—such as federal contractors and businesses in states with E-Verify mandates—our services ensure that you meet all legal obligations with ease.

Fast and Reliable: E-Verify delivers results in seconds, allowing you to streamline your hiring process and bring new employees on board faster. With our dedicated support, you can trust that the system will be used effectively and accurately.

Anti-Discrimination Safeguards: E-Verify is designed to promote fair hiring practices. Our team is trained to use the system in a non-discriminatory manner, ensuring that all employees are treated equally, regardless of their nationality or immigration status.

Eligibility Requirements for the 24-Month Extension of Post-Completion OPT

To qualify for the 24-month extension of post-completion Optional Practical Training (OPT) for students with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) degrees, the following requirements must be met:

  1. STEM Degree: You must have completed a degree in a field designated as a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) field by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

  2. Approved OPT Status: You must be currently in an approved period of post-completion OPT and have a valid Employment Authorization Document (EAD).

  3. Employment with E-Verify Employer: You must be employed by, or have a job offer from, an employer that is enrolled in and in good standing with the E-Verify program.

  4. Previous STEM Degree: If your current OPT is based on a non-STEM degree, you may still be eligible if you previously earned a qualifying STEM degree from an accredited U.S. institution and meet all other criteria.

  5. Job Related to STEM Field: The job you are working in or have been offered must be directly related to your STEM degree.

  6. Training Plan (Form I-983): You and your employer must complete and submit Form I-983, “Training Plan for STEM OPT Students,” detailing how the job will further your knowledge and skills in your STEM field.

  7. Maintaining F-1 Status: You must maintain your F-1 student status during your period of OPT, including following all reporting requirements and maintaining employment that meets the requirements.

If you meet all these criteria, you can apply for the 24-month OPT extension, allowing you to continue gaining valuable work experience in your field of study.
